Definition

Leukoplakia is thick white patches formed on the inside of your mouth. Some conditions are mild and it goes away on its own, while some need immediate treatment as it might result in oral cancer.

Signs & Symptoms

The signs or symptoms that you are suffering from Leukoplakia are a gray color patch beneath the tongue skin, thick surface or layer, rare red spots, and others.

Cause

Some of the common causes of leukoplakia are injury to the cheek, uneven biting, dentures, smoking, more alcohol consumption, and others.

Diagnosis

The dentists conduct an oral exam, and the oral patches are noticed in the mouth od the patient. Oral thrush and leukoplakia have the same symptoms, so dentists need to confirm the symptoms. The dentists will do some other tests to confirm the condition, such as a biopsy.

Prevention

Leukoplakia can be prevented only with certain lifestyle changes by leaving habits such as smoking, alcohol consumption, tobacco, and others.

Treatment

The dentists say that there are many patch conditions tat cures on its own, but some require effective treatments. If a serious disease is expected to spread, then the patches are removed using laser treatment. Some other procedures include freezing procedure, scalpel, and others.
