Periodontitis is also known as a form of gum disease. It is a serious gum infection that destroys the supporting bone of the teeth. It hampers the soft tissue of your gums, and it needs immediate attention from dentists.
Signs & Symptoms
Some of the common symptoms of periodontitis gum infection are puffy gums, painful chewing, bad breath, blood spitting, gum bleeding, and others. If you see such symptoms, then connect to your dentists right away.
The cause of periodontitis is basically poor flossing and brushing habits. Due to poor brushing and flossing, the plaques build up around your teeth and forms a sticky bacterial film. This layer hardens and causes this gum infection.
The dentists measure the groove depth between teeth and gums. This is done by using a dental probe beneath the gumline. If the depth of the groove pockets is above or equal to 4mm, then there is a periodontitis condition.
Prevention can be done only if people make it a habit to brush or at least wash their mouth properly after every meal. This will suppress plaque build-up and will prevent this condition.
Under treatment, the dentists make sure to clean the pocket grooves properly. This is done all around the teeth to prevent or suppress the damage caused to the bone.
